Hastings-on-Hudson, situated 19 miles from New York City, was incorporated in 1879.

A charming village with spectacular Hudson River views, Hastings is proud of its rich arts and recreational resources. The village is home to the famed Hudson River Painting School artist, Jasper Cropsey Museum and many art galleries.

One of its leading recreational facilities is the Aqueduct Trailway, offering a place to hike, relax and enjoy rich scenery.

In the Hastings vincinity there are private and public golf courses. The oldest golf course in the United States, St. Andrew's, is a spectacular private facility. The village also has two yacht clubs along the Hudson River.

The peaceful atmosphere and appealing Hudson views have brought many noteworthy people to Hastings. From 1916 to the early '30s, producer Florenz Zeigfeld and his wife, actress Billie Burke (who played the good witch in "The Wizard of Oz") lived on the 22 acre estate called Burkeley Crest. Sculptor Jacques Lipchitz and Admiral David Farragut were other noted residents of Hastings.
