Irvington is named for the renowned author
Washington Irving who lived in a cottage on Sunnyside Lane
from 1835 to 1859.
Magnificent views of the Hudson, combined with
small town flavor and easy access to New York City, made Irvington
a magnet for many famous names. Tiffany glass creator, Louis
Tiffany spent boyhood vacations in the village during the
1860's.
Two of Irvington's most venerable landmarks
are the Octagon House(also known as the Armour-Stiner House)
and gazebo. These buildings along, with the Town Hall Theater,
are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The residents take pride in the fact that the
business district remains quaint and complete with essential
shopping. White Plains and Yonkers, just minutes away, provide
additional shopping opportunities.
