The Rivertowns
are proud of their rich and diverse artistic traditions. Once home
to the famous Hudson River School
of Painting, the villages still boast spectacular views and
art galleries as well a museum dedicated to Hudson River School
painter Jasper Cropsey.
In addition to numerous art galleries; theater troupes,
concerts and dance recital are some of the many cultural attractions
to the villages. The Irvington Town Hall Theater and the Tarrytown
Music Hall have long and colorful histories. The Hudson Valley
Writers Center, in Sleepy Hollow, offers aspiring writers an agenda
of workshops, reading, and classes.
The Actors' Conservatory Theatre in Ardsley conducts
acting workshops, runs an improvisational group and is home to the
Merry Murders Mystery Ensemble. Playtime production, also in Ardsley,
presents three children's series featuring plays, musicals, puppet
shows, magic and comedy cabaret.
The Rivertowns Art Council
has an abundance of cultural events. Films, concerts, exhibits, dance
performance and summer art workshops are a sampling of their activities.
Another of our resources is the Tarrytown
Music Hall. This Queen Anne style building was erected in 1885
and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Famous
as the oldest operating legitimate theater in Westchester, the Music
Hall presents concerts, plays, recitals and musicals. Former presidents
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson have spoken here.
