Tucked along the Hudson River in Southwest Westchester are the villages of Hastings-On-Hudson,
Dobbs Ferry, Irvington,
Tarrytown and Sleepy
Hollow. These Rivertowns along with Ardsley,
offer the comfort of small-town life conveniently
located a short distance from Manhattan. The majestic Hudson River
paints a scenic backdrop as you travel from Hastings
to Tarrytown. Like other mature
New York suburbs, they have winding tree lined residential
streets, homes of many vintages, excellent
schools, abundant shopping and a convenient
commute.
But unlike other
suburbs, history plays an integral role in the Rivertowns.
The past is always present here, and places like Lyndhurst,
Sunnyside, and Philipsburg Manor transport visitors and
villagers alike to another era; lodgings such as the Castle
at Tarrytown, offer the guests a glimpse into the past in
a luxurious, medieval setting.
Seniors play a vital role in the
river villages. The Andrus Retirement Home, a residence for
seniors, is located in Hastings. Programs such as the Busy
Bees and the Senior Canteen involve the senior population
in numerous social activities, lectures, health programs and
trips.
